COMPLETED PROJECTS
•Developing 14 miles of blazed trails in the park with and trail head signs describing different various lengths and level of difficulty. All the trails have been re-blazed by volunteers this spring.
•Designing and printing a detailed trail map of the blazed trails
•Two Informational Kiosks installed in the park as an Eagle Scout project. One side features a "you are here" laminated Trail Map donated by Alle-Kiski Medical Center and other side is used for upcoming events.
•Developing and maintaining "The Friends of Harrison Hills Website"
•Installation of the Watts Observation Deck
•Transformation of old Park Managers home into an All-Inclusive Environmental Learning Center with an accessible toilet
•Installation of an accessible ramp at the Environmental Learning Center entrance as an Eagle Scout project
•Furnishing the ELC with 100% donations of mounted mammals, fish, insects
Securing donated display cases to display fossils, arrowheads, birds, eggs, mushrooms, feathers, etc.
•Installation of a parking lot for 98 visitors near the Environmental Learning Center
•Publishing a detailed list of 70 plus tree species found in the park including their location and possible uses
•Publishing a detailed list of 180 plus resident and migratory bird species found in the park
•Installation of wildlife blind at the large pond as an Eagle Scout project
•Installation of 9 park benches on trails as an Eagle Scout project
•Installation of 6 benches around the Watts Meadow playground by the Highlands Area Rotarians
•Installation of 3 bat nesting boxes as an Eagle Scout project
•Installation and monitoring of 38 bluebird nesting boxes
•Installation 4 Purple Martin Houses, 1 Barn Owl House and Barn Swallow Nesting tower
•Repairing 2 out of 9 leaking Pavillion Roofs
•Conceiving and hosting of year around nature related programs by the Friends at the ELC
•Directional signs on Route 908 to the park, new park entrance sign, in park directional signs to various facilities in the park, new grove signs
•Installation of a Boy Scouts camp sight including a fire ring, the building of 16 movable tent platforms for overnight camp outs in the park
•Installation of 4 Speed bumps to slow traffic on park roadways
•Replacement of rotten wooded guide rails with maintenance free steel ribbon rails
•Repaving of all park access roadways
•Repaired two washed out culverts in stream on the Creekside trail
•Installation of 'Rainbow Bridge" on Rachel Carson Trail just above RC Falls
•Building and Installation of 2 bridges on trails as the latest Eagle Scout project
•Installed a fence along the river hillside of the Watts Meadow for safety next to Children’s playground
•Installed an all inclusive paved handicap accessible trails 1/3 mile long around the Watts Meadow
•Attending Nature Explore workshops, writing and receiving grant for establishing a Nature Explore Play area for children next to ELC. It will be one of the first in the Pittsburgh area.
